Don
You and I definitely had differences when I was active here. I am certain I still think you're full of it on nearly everything political, but my heart sank to the floor to see this thread during my random every couple months check-in here.
While I didn't learn a damn useful thing from you politically, one can't deny a force of nature. I hope the stubborn ass that you are ekes out every second of life this world owes you, and I am sure you'll make every last one productive, for better or worse.
I've learned from you even if it's been in a state of frustration, and your example in this thread I'll remember forever for the dignity and purpose conveyed even as you face what is likely beyond most of your readers' footsteps so far. There will be lapidarists far into the future stumbling via Google "how do I" searches led to this archive of your experience converted to text.
And I know, like you've said, you're not gone yet. Guys built like you never really are, and that's a good thing. Peace, comfort, and love to you from me, in a fully liberal way of course. And yeah, I hope it annoys you just a little.

Just a quick update. I'm still hanging in there. Ran out of happy pills last week. Went about 76 hours without sleep. There's a shortage of specialized docs up here, so they have to travel from town to town to see patients. He finally got back & renewed my prescription. Good stuff. Kills the pain & knocks me out at night. I still refuse to take the damned things 3 times per day like prescribed. Don't want to turn into an addicted zombie, so I just fight through the pain until bedtime.
Haven't been online as often as I'd like to be. Spending most of my time in my recliner watching reruns. Only get up to pee, eat & take Jake out. Need to figure out how to attach my keyboard to my recliner so I can spend more time on the computer.
Hope all of my rockin friends are out finding lots of treasures to cut & polish. Wish I could get out on the hunt again, but it's not to be. Just as well. mORE STUFF LEFT FOR YOU TO FIND. ( I always did manage to bring more rocks home than I could possibly use ).
Rock on. Don.

I just want to say I respect the hell out of you for putting up the fight you have been . Will you win ? Chances are , no . Watched my Dad fight like you are 4 years ago . I am sure there were times he would have liked to throw in the towel , but he cared too much about us to just give up . Fought the toughest battle of his life . Three days before he passed away he told me that he wasn't afraid of dying , he was just didn't want to leave us . Keep on fighting , only you know how much .

Evenin all you rockhounds. Haven't been around for a few weeks. Just wanted to let everyone know I'm not feeding the worms yet.
My wife was kind enough to bring home a virus that was going around the nursing home where her mother is. Lucky me caught it, so it's been a rough few weeks.
Hope all of you are getting out hounding. If you are, pick up a rock or 2 in my name. Wish I could get out hounding, but those days are over. Rest assured that I'll be hounding with all of you in spirit, if not in body.
Still too weak to sit in front of this keyboard for more than a few minutes at a time, so I'm off to my recliner to rest some more.
Keep on rockin.
Don

I'll totally cab some in your honor next time I'm at the wheel. I could probably find some sand and clay round here, but who wants that?!

I think we need to send Helen over to be Don's caretaker.. But, but, but.... I LIKE Don. LOL! Of course, the anger could give him a few more great years.
