Happy to report that after a night of puking and peeing all over the hall carpet, Jake is feeling somewhat better today. Every day, hour and minute I can have with my little buddy, I count as a blessing. Thanks to all for the prayers and kind words. Wife is holding up much better at the loss of her mother than I thought she would. I suspect it will hit her after the funeral on Friday. Don That's great news! Wonder what was wrong with him? Hope it stays gone whatever it was.

He's far from 100%, but at least he ate a little bit this evening. First he's eaten in almost 4 days.

Glad that Jakes eating a bit. Have to tempt him and feed him up. He's got a strong will to get to the end of the journey his way.

Rain's what makes those rainbows. Everything is as it will be.
Best wishes!

More good news. For the first time in 5 days, Jake left brown land mines in the back yard. He also barked for the first time in 5 days. Music to my ears. Damn, it's been quiet around here. strange how you miss those little things like barking at everything that comes up the road.

When Cat was sick, I was thrilled to see him pee. LOL!

Jake knows you are not well Don. Dogs are compassionate towards their owner's ailments. He will give it everything he has to be there for you.
Don and Jake's situation and this video, well, can barely see the computer screen. Tears

jakesrocksJake.. How are you and Don getting on? Hope Don is keeping a good attitude and you are feeling up to keeping the neighbors cats out of the yard. Warm wishes for health and freedom from pain.

Damn, been almost a month since I gave an update. think the old biological time clock is starting to wind down. Not getting any sleep. I for the most part just sit in my recliner all day and night, listening to the TV with my eyes closed. Barely have the strength to get up most days. At least I'm not down to the garden hose in a bucket and bedpan stage yet. Still managing to make it to the bathroom, and to take Jake out.
My trucker buddy is now the sole owner of the rock shop in Billings, MT. He called today to give me the good news. He plans to be retired from trucking by years end. He'll be coming to clean out my rocks and equipment as soon as he gets his vacation time. Hope I'm still kicking, so I can see him one more time before I go to feed the worms.
Damned doctor won't give me stronger happy pills so I can sleep at night. He wants me in the hospital, so he can run up a huge bill without doing anything that will help me. Doctor be damned. I ain't going in the hospital. I'd rather die in my recliner with Jake at my side.
Anyway, that's the local news for now. Don

I agree with you. Stay home as long as you can, but it's also ok to go to the hospital or a care facility if and when you think that they could make you feel more comfortable. It would take a lot for me to cave in on that, and I suspect you, too, but one never knows what the future will bring. Hoping you can manage some rest - it can do wonders for you.

It's good to hear you are still getting up to go on your own. That's a big blessing! Too bad tv pretty much sucks, though. My parents both died outside the hospital. Mom at home and Dad while he was doing something he loved, camping. I totally understand wanting to be at home. Dignity.
Hang in there, Don. You need to see your buddy again.

jakesrocksDon; I can't "like" your post due to its nature. But I can say, glad to know you are still fighting. You set an amazing example for all of us.

BTW, if your wife hasn't already contacted the VA about in-home assistance, she might want to do this just in case it becomes necessary. When my aunt became very ill, the VA folks were very cooperative in arranging (and paying) for nurses to come to their house daily to do things like pain management, changing IV's, updating doctors, etc. She hated hospitals and wanted only to be home with her cats, and having that in-home care made it possible for her to do that while being kept comfortable. Them being there let my uncle and cousin take a few hours off to run errands and do shopping, too.

Thanks for thinking about us Don. We been thinking about you too, you ornery ole fart. The recliner seems like my choice too. Would have thought a darn ole hippy would have some whacky weed to medicate with when the happy pills aren't enough. Hated the opium suppositories for pain when I got shot. Not user friendly. Like the little straws but they constipate the crap into you. Love Jake extra cause he for sure loves you. Cliff

Unfortunately SD isn't a medical weed state. Only smoked the crap once in my life, way back at my high school graduation beach party after drinking cheap wine from a gallon jug. Puked my guts up and never tried it again. Oh well, they say you only die once. Lately that seems like a goal to shoot for, but I'm too damned hard headed to give up that easy. Besides, someone needs to be around here to keep all the snowflakes in line. Don

Some body needs to make a road trip for you to try the ole smoke again. Lots of people have had great results or their spouses. Must a been the $1 wine that made you sick. Of course it might have been the 5 gallons of it too...grin..

Only been 58 years since that fateful night. Just a bunch of drunk guys around a campfire on the beach, until the cops came and ran us off.
