They call it Starry Night jasper. Its a newer pricey material from Nevada just found a couple if years ago. I had one piece that I got at the Roseville show last year and it made a gorgeous cab - and now I'm happier than a cat in a fresh litter box to get more. This was last year's cab.

Is this stuff commercially available yet? or just scattered availability? In any case it's very attractive material.

Is this stuff commercially available yet? or just scattered availability? In any case it's very attractive material. I'm not certain Erich - apparently just scattered at this point. A year ago at the Roseville CA gem show I ran into an guy selling it along with another material he calls honey golden jasper ( ... or is it golden honey jasper ... my CRS is flaring up again). The golden jasper is very hard - agate hard - while the starry night I got this time is softer and more variable - could just be a one-off softer rock thing. Apparently the guy is a prospector for an oil company and discovered the two materials about 100 yards from each other. I'll post a picture of the golden stuff below. Anyway it caught my eye and I bought one small piece of each and went home and cabbed it and it got such a warm response I watched for it all year and never saw any of it for sale. So...last weekend at the Roseville show I made a beeline for the guy's booth only to find out he didn't show up this year After moping around depressed and grumbling for the next hour (true story - ask Eva lol) I discovered some for sale at another vendor who had purchased it from the other vendor the prior year. So to answer your question again...I don't know. I haven't been able to find more outside of that one show. I did come away with a potential lead how to get in touch with the guy but it's a long shot at this point because the old guy apparently doesn't do the whole computer/phone thing LOL. Thanks for the reply Tommy, I sometimes wish I lived closer to the rockhounding areas of the US - out west I mean. Your golden honey cabs are wonderful and will probably be almost unique if the old prospector doesn't show up with more of the two materials. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share such cool finds!
