One more time; The haul. Larger Nodules, most I collected were 1 to 3 inch, these were some of the few larger ones; The Blue color on some of the agates was really nice, some of those had black plume in the blue this was the biggest; Good Morning Henry, Do you mind saying which ranch that you got the blue ones from? Say Singleton... Singleton seems to have the most material readily picked over and picked up. How about another thread if you get time letting us know what you liked about each ranch and what materials were more prevalent there. Lots of people are really looking at the ranches right now and some west coasters looking at spring. Know Brian (beefjello) was thinking spring hunt.

Then all you would have to do is find the time to change the grits all the time. No little, pretty or much think in my tank Sis. Got that dreaded Y chromosome curse.. Makes me want to whack stuff with a hammer if its not working out. Hope Ya'll can get to Texas this fall or Spring.

80% of what I collected in the 6 days was from 3 days at Singleton. We went to 3 different areas of the Ranch. There is a 4th area on the Ranch that Teri takes folks to but it was not in the 3 days we did. It is a big Ranch, 10 or 12 sections, that's a lot acreage to cover. There is a lot of Agate there, however one does need to be somewhat selective as some of the agate is just plain with no pattern or bouquet. If one were to start picking every piece of agate they saw they would fill a 5 gallon bucket in 30 or 40 minutes, of course you would only have 10 to 15% of that be the better material.
You have already seen Jeremy's Needle Peak material, and I had posted the small pieces of Pet wood I found on the Larrimore Ranch. The material on Larrimore was smaller and a good deal more scattered with more walking involved.
With all the rock I have collected over the years and that from my other sources, I have a new guideline for collecting, Highgrade!, Highgrade!, Highgrade!

Need to ask terri if digging in the area of the float you found might turn up some rounds. Wonder if Jeam Larramore would be a good guide for her ranch. She has ridden every inch of it and must know her rocks. Figured that Singleton was the productive one but you hit the Peak for 2 days. Was that mostly in search of the illusive pom pom ? You didn't even scrape the ground when you located extra nice stuff like that blue material? Might be interesting to scrape about with a small rake. Wonder where it originated from? Terri is so lucky. She must know most of that acreage like the back of her hand.

There is so much agate on the surface no need to use any tools to dig or rake down any. It's also a working cattle ranch so any digging is usually frowned upon.
The agate at Needle Peak contrasts well with most of the rest of the rocks so seeing it is pretty easy. Of course some of it will only show a tiny piece visible in the wash and there a keen eye is very helpful. Yes Pompom is very rare now and I have only seen 2 or 3 good pieces brought in my trips there. Wish I had a picture of a piece that was found about 20 years ago by someone in our group, it must have been almost 2 pounds of mostly clear with the yellow starbursts clearly visible throughout. Probably one of the best agates I have ever seen.
The Petrified Wood at Larremore seems to be weathering out of an old alluvial deposit(I think), and not weathered out in place. It would be interesting to see where it weathered out from.
