Hello everyone! I am new to the forum, looks like a lot of great information here! I am somewhat new to tumbling and so far so good! I've got 3 3lb barrels going and I just built a 12 lb tumbler(still needs tweaking but working pretty well) I did recently hit a snap though. I got a couple lbs of Blue Tigers Eye(Hawks eye if you prefer) and it's super rough, I am having trouble getting all the junk clay and stone off of it. Any suggestions on how to remove/loosen up the junk would be greatly appreciated.

I take mine outside, put on a P-99 cartridge half face respirator, safety glasses and face shield and grind it off with a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder and diamond wheel. I try to avoid my fingers.

Are you talking about that top layer that isn't really tigereye? I have cut it off on my trim saw. It will also eventually tumble off, but you will lose a little more of the rest of your rock that way.

Was trying avoid grinding due to the asbestos I'm told is in tiger eye. If that's my only option I guess that's what it will be. I have heard some people treat with acid to break the stone down. Any insight into this method?

I had a bunch like that . Busted it up with a hammer and chisel . I think that brown crap is harder than the tiger itself , at least it seamed like it . I busted as much off as I could and started it rolling . After rolling for what seemed like forever , some of the brown got trimmed off with a tile saw . Should have done that from the start . And welcome to the forum .

Welcome to the forum. definately trim off the crust with a trim saw using oil or water coolant. Break/ saw the rest into sizes your comfortable with, and tumble normally. good luck.
