Polka Dot Agate mine Madras,Oregon...is producing a new material. Just discovered a large thunder-egg bed. Eggs are composed of a charcoal to light gray Rhyolite matrix with its center being Chalcedony - Opal - Chalcedony/Opal mix - or Chalcedony lined hollow.

Interesting... we are going up there in June. I get worried when I hear "opal" inside of eggs though - most of it is crap in my humble opinion.

What is the cost per pound at places like this? At Richardson's Ranch the cost has been $1 per lb all you can dig. They give you a map out to where the beds are and turn you loose. After a day of digging you check in at the store and weigh your loot and pay for it. We hauled out about 75lbs from blue bed last year - and a few from the Priday plume bed. I still haven't cut a whole lot of them yet but the ones I cut have been pretty productive.

1dave What's your view on reading the Richardson's? Would like an experienced opinion. Also if you wouldn't mind, what bed do you like best from Richardson's , Blue, moss etc. Thank you,
