Cat's get these very dangerous urinary tract infections, ( www.petmd.com/cat/centers/nutrition/evr_ct_feline-urinary-tract-disease) which block them up. It is fatal. We had a cat before with this. Cat, my husband's best buddy, is deathly ill with it. We noticed he wasn't feeling well, so we got out the carrier for vet trip. He wasn't having it, so he took off. That was yesterday morning. We searched and searched and stayed up all night. We feared the worst. But, this morning my grand daughter was out early and heard him crying about 4 houses down. DH scooped him up real quick and rushed to the vet ER. He was crying incessantly and had blood on him. I don't know if he is going to make it. I sure hope so! He's a very good pet and more like a dog than a cat. He's definitely a people cat. He loves his people. He's so lovable and is even friendly with other cats. He left about 30 mins ago. I was still in my pajamas so I didn't go. I wait on pins and needles for word. Two side notes- This will be hella expensive. And, interestingly, there were 2 strays, who were friends of his, who were sitting with him. I don't know why really, but I like to think they were trying to comfort him or watch out for him. He often laid about the yard with them. I'm really nervous and upset. If you could, could you please keep Cat in your thoughts? He's a good boy.

Praying for your family member. Animals do have such feelings as those you describe Cat's friends expressing.

Thank you!
got an update...
We never knew his age. He was a stray who adopted us about 6 years ago. The vet puts him at over 10. He was over 90% blocked. His kidney bloodwork was over the top unreadable. Because of his age and kidney tests, they want to treat him as 100% blocked. He will be in hospital for 3 or 4 days. He is resting comfortably with painkillers in a warm cage. (His body temp was low.) So, Cat will live!!!! We wanted to know if kidney damage was something that he might should be put down for. They said he might need supplements and a special diet, so we made a down payment on the bill. 1100.00 and more to go! A lot, but he's worth it. I wish my dr bills were so cheap!

I'm so sorry to hear about kitty and hope he recovers fully! I have 9 cats - all rescues- and 7 of which are males. Our most loved cat "Sammy" has had the exact same problem several times in the past but fortunately not as extreme as yours. Since we put him on the special "Urinary tract formula" diet the problem of blockage has gone down tremendously. We had also to learn to listen to the quality of his meowing to detect when he was starting to have issues. It's more common in male cats than females but thankfully Sammy is the only one that has presented with the problem. Good luck and remember he still has 8 lives to go!

Good luck and remember he still has 8 lives to go! Yup, it's worse for male cats. We had another cat with the problem. He was on the urinary tract food, too. Cat will now. DH just brought a bag home with him. Yes, Cat is very vocal and we can tell a lot about his meows, but the real tip off for us was that he spent the night sleeping under our bed, which he has never done. He's a big overgrown baby when he doesn't feel well. He wants to be up your butt. I would love to keep him an indoor cat, but he was a stray before and apparently he either never used one before or he just absolutely hates the catbox and refuses to use it. The doc said he will have to use one when he gets home so we can monitor his urine. We'll see about that.

Arrgg... sorry Tela. Sending good thoughts and vibes your way - hope he pulls through OK.
My siamese cat is prone to those infections. We have to be SO freakin careful with her - even a change in food or brand of litter can trigger problems.
Edit: oh ouch... just read your update. Glad he's going to be OK. Critters are expensive ... but they repay it with the joy they bring I guess.

Similarly, my old lady of 19+ passed last summer. The vet said she could go some more yet, but we would only be postponing the inevitable. Ten years is young yet, though like anyone, who knows what tomorrow brings. Wishes for a speedy recovery so he's feline great very soon!

Cat came home last night. All his bloodwork finally came back normal. He was sooo happy to be home. It was cute. I wish I had taken video. We went to visit him the other night. He was none to pleased to be there. He had the cone of shame on, tubes coming out everywhere and little shaved spots all over the place. Other than his ailment his general health is extremely good. He's got a lot of years ahead of him. Now, I just have to figure out how to get his meds into him! Thank you for all the well wishes! It is comforting to know people care. We were all very upset, especially Cat.

Oh boy cats and meds. Depends on liquid or solid medication. If its a pill or tablet that make a handy little pill pusher thing that you stick in their mouth toward the back of the throat, takes a little practice. Its like a little plunger on a stick. Liquids maybe in a little salmon or tuna juice. Glad your fur baby is home.
