Bought this on a whim off eBay. The hematite is easy to identify. Any idea about the purple ish stuff? Not sure how I'm going to break it up yet, lol. This is the largest piece I've had so far.

Usually jasper with hematite is the make up of "banded iron" / Jaspilite. Did the eBay listing say where it was from? Link to auction (for picture)?

Looks like some material that I got out of Canada. Yup, jasper & hematite. Polishes nicely. I have tumbled some of the same, no idea where they (stones) are. Got a saw big enough to slab that?

One large tumbler required!

In Michigan's U.P., it's possible to find pieces even bigger than 12 lbs. Here are a couple pictures of Jasper Knob in the town of Ishpeming. It's a small mountain of jasper right in the middle of town. Super cool. Too big to bring home. Too big to bring home.. Don't quit so darn quick. If the mountain cant come to Mohammad... let take a tumbler to the mountain. I envision a group from this forum using a giant abandoned factory's smokestack to fab a tumbler around this sucker. Of course I see visions all the time..

I like tumbling this material. The hematite/magnetite layers may undercut a bit. We have infinite poundage lying on old iron mine dumps around Sudbury, Canada, but it's very, very heavy, and seldom close to a road. Makes striking slabs. An under-utilized resource, with an interesting history of formation in ancient seas.
