notjustone sent me some raw SiC. Ungraded, unscreened, not cleaned. Betcha it will grind rocks for way less cost than screened SiC 30-46-80 etc. It is a bulk product and is probably only available in pallet quantity. Trying to twist notjustone's arm to find out how much his company pays for this stuff. I believe it is melted as an additive to metals. Precision screened and cleaned SiC coarse grit is a waste of money for coarse tumbling IMO. Like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly. A mix of 8-16-30-46-80 grit ends up ground down to nothing in a weeks time regardless. Into a muddy mess. Target is to shape rocks, nasty process. Probably half this stuff is 220 or less. The other is bigger than 30 grit. Who cares if it costs 10 to 20 cents a pound(guessing). If you don't think it will cut spread some out on a piece of window glass and rub it around for 5 seconds. Close up

Never seen ungraded carbide. Try it out course grinding in a rotary barrel, and see what happens. I agree it should break down and be just fine.

Probably make a quick slurry with all the fine grit & powder in the mix.
You should order a railroad car full Jim and then put Denise to work packing up and selling flat rate boxes of it. Oh, and could you have her go dig up a truck load of your fine clay to pack, sell and ship while she is at it?
wonder if I'll be able to see the fireworks from here...

How does it read ? Accessory after the fact ? She broke my sternum on the first date. Two great uncles that did many years for murder. I walk softly around the Ivie's and remind them of their lazy eyes on both sides of the family for thrills. Just started a couple of barrels running this grit. If it is real cheap let the small stuff make slurry, agreed. It has junk in it like ash and coke. It has some rock slashers for sure though. Can't be that expensive.

Bulk product customers are big wholesale buyers too. Peon pallet buyers is of no interest to them. notjustone probably has an opportunity to get this crude SiC thru his company. I suggest he consider such as an income opportunity. Got me two barrels running with it. Looking forward to the results.

Awesome, can't wait to see what the results are. I would think nice thick slurry.

I'm not sure I could buy a pallet if I wanted to the company would definitely say no if they even thought there was a chance of resale for liability reasons. although this is pretty safe we do use some pretty funky stuff and you know how management types are. I cleared it to take some "small amounts" when I see it spilled with my supervisor since it would just be driven over and sucked into the sweeper and thrown out anyway. but at the same time I have a feeling if the front offices got wind I would be told not to anymore.

That sounds like some good roughing material. Might be worthwhile to try to find out where your company gets it notjustone.

Can't be that expensive. the pallets do say 96 percent silicon carbide. plus there may be a little floor debris that got shoveled up as well. I found a chunk of wood from a busted pallet when I added grit to my barrels yesterday. hey its free I cant be picky .

upon cleaning out this weekend I was less than thrilled to see some of the larger chunks had not broken down and looked a little rounded not like jagged cutters. I do run a lot of smalls in my coarse grind (to make sure I have enough to add in when I go to the uv-10 so I wont need ceramics) which does cushion the load a lot. so when I loaded my barrels sat I added some larger stones to each barrel. see what it looks like next weekend.

I usually run a load or two of nothing but smalls through the vibe to have enough for usual vibe runs . A couple days in the coarse with cleanouts and fresh grit added really cleans up the smalls for future use .

A couple runs with 120/220 Sic is what I do . I do try to use pit free smalls but sometimes get a few in there . I run them a day , rinse , recharge and run for another day and do a good wash cycle with borax and rinse good . Some times I will run a couple wash cycles just to humor myself . By then , they have the sharp edges knocked off .
