Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my miniature schnauzer Beamer. We got him as a puppy in 2002. My kids grew up with him. The last few years he started having seizures. Not often....a few times a year. I didn't even know they were seizures until recently. He would usually be laying in his bed yelping, I thought he was having a nightmare. Until one day I saw him collapse and start yelping, then I realized what it was. The vet put him on medication about a month ago. He had been confused and been having balance issues for a while. I knew for months I would have to make the decision at some point. We were at the vet last week asking him how do I know when it's time. He was getting a little worse day by day but didn't seem to be in pain. He was eating normally, his heart and lungs sounded good. Yesterday morning he had two seizures. His breathing was heavy. He couldn't stand still without leaning and almost falling over. He was leaning against the couch and then bottom stair to hold himself. It was then I knew it was time. I called the vet and got an appointment. When we got into the room he had another seizure as we waited for someone to come in. He was so out of it and his breathing was was still heavy. I asked why when the other day his lungs sounded good. She said they sometimes breathe like that when they are uncomfortable. I said I only wanted to be in there while she injected the first drug to knock him out but I wanted to leave before the second one. I wanted him to know I was there for him. I said good bye and left. He looked like he was comfortably sleeping. I was bawling my eyes out. I will miss him. RIP Beamer

That's terrible. Please accept my sincere condolences. I know how hard it is to lose a furbaby.

So sorry! I've had to make that decision myself. It is never easy. But take comfort in knowing you did what was best for Beamer.
