I took the day away from the shop to catch up on yard work around the house since it finally quit raining and decided the trees needed a good trim of low hanging branches. I fired up the Poulan weed whacker with the handy dandy pole saw attachment and proceeded giving upside down haircuts. All was swell until the last tree, a huge Walnut in the back yard must have heard the screams from the other trees and decided to take out the human tree scalper. (plants have feelings, right) Long story short, a 6 inch diameter and 4 foot long section broke off unexpectedly before the saw was all the way through, and because it was slightly "C" shaped, it slid down the pole saw shaft in the blink of an eye and hit my forearm. Needless to say, I was afraid my arm was broken, but it didn't flop around and I could move my fingers. The rough bark on the limb took of a LOT of bark on my arm and it swelled up huge and incredibly fast!
The wife was at the shop in Branson, so I drove myself to the urgent care and met her there. X rays showed no fracture, so I'm very fortunate there! not much jewelry will get made for a few days though :-(

Wow radio, ya gotta be careful out there! The good news is that the damage is temporary and will heal in time. Just like you said, things can (and do) happen so quickly that we can't avoid the consequences. I am glad to hear that it was not worse than it was. It sure could have been, that's for sure! Be careful out there to you all.

Sorry to hear that. At least you aren't seriously injured. Sounds like you sure as hell could have been. OUCH! Glad your arm and not your face!

Thanks everyone! Yep, I'm more of a "Glass is half full" kind of guy, so I'm going with lucky. Last night wasn't as bad as it could have been pain wise and I actually got some good sleep.
The pretty lady Doctor and I had an interesting conversation while she was digging bark out of my arm and cutting away damaged skin. She prefaced everything with "Now this is going to hurt!" so I told her to not be bashful and clean it good! She said that most of the younger guys that she treats can't handle pain, so she is very delicate when treating them.

Glad you are okay and able to get yourself to the urgent care. Could have been a lot worse. My neighbor had a large limb do the same thing, except it severed a nerve when it hit (closer to the shoulder). He lost the use of his right hand.

It is spelled bamygulett, pronounced BAMA-GILLY-ET. Made from oil from the bud of the BALM tree (also has petroleum jelly as an ingredient). Sounds like it used similar to bag balm.
One seller on eBay lists many uses: Burns, sun burns, battery acid burns, sun poisoning, scrapes, cuts, paper cuts, draw splinters out, boils, brings cysts to a head, bruises, diaper rash, hangnails, any kinds of sores on your pet, udders on cows (used in winter when udders drag in the snow), cold sores, hemorrhoids, all kinds of rashes, pimples, acne (are those not the same thing?), shingles, trigger finger (??), cracked hands in winter, gaulding between the legs, canker and denture sores, bed sores, abscessed teeth, diabetic sores, staph infection, mosquito bites, psoriasis, sumac poisoning....
This is the "Balm of Gilead" in the Bible. Reminds me of the George Carlin schtick, "The Seven Words You Can Never Say On Tv"
"And the cock CROWED 3 times." "Hey, the cock CROWED 3 times. ha ha ha ha. Hey, it's in the bible. ha ha ha ha."
So it must be true? Or just shows it has been around a long while.
Whatever happened to that list, anyway? I think they pretty much say anything they want to on TV these days.
Get better quickly, Arlen.

I would say lucky bad luck, but here is the crazy part, plants have a brain. Read this just a couple of days ago, scientists are now saying that plants have a brain and many can communicate within their own herd or flock or whatever.
I still use Merthiolate from a bottle that I have had since my kids were little (+ - 50 years). I can not get anyone else to use it more than once and the first time after they agree they call me every cuss word they have learned in their life time. I have been thanked later because the original pain is gone but they still won't do it again.
Get well soon Jim

rockpickerforever and orrum I learned something new today! I've heard of hundreds of home remedies, but never this stuff! COOL! I finished mowing about two acres today and picked up the rest of the limbs I trimmed yesterday, so going to take it easy this afternoon

I am happy to report most of the swelling has gone down, so it looks 100% better today. I am also UNHAPPY to report that the so called "non stick" wound pads are NOT non stick!

Hope you feel better fast.
