Some of these have pretty distinct banding, but they're too opaque for what i'd usually call agate. Northern Black Hills. Anyone have an ID?
This one might be agate it's more translucent, tempted to dome it and save the scaly crust:

Looks like banded chert to me. Pretty stuff, will make some nice cabs I think.

Does it flake like a flint? I haven't broken any but the existing pieces have some conchoidal fractures so i'd guess it would. Not sure how to test that without risking fracturing.

Yep, looks like banded chert to me. We have similar stuff here except yours is much more colorful. We only get those colors up in north Texas....Mel
