All: We are new to this as a family and are anxious to learn and grow in the hobby. I have read quiet a bit of the information in the posts in this Topic and think I have a lot better idea of what we may have found. With that said, I would like and appreciate yall's opinion on these finds. For the group, is it more proper to post one picture at a time per post/topic, or multiple - say 10 different photos - in a single post? Here is one I would lie your input on. This was found in the Alpine, TX Region. Thanks!

Saw that orangy mossy colour earlier today in a post by Fossilman. His piece came from PolkaDot area. Don't know if that lies in the same geographical area.

Looks like yellowish-green jasper of some sort, judging from the conchoidal chip at upper left that reveals the color on the inside. I think the colors and dendrites on the face are surface-only and won't extend to the interior of the stone.

Learned something there.

texasroy . Sorry, I can't help with rock ID, although I have some Larsonite that looks very similar to your second photo (the rock with green). Just don't know where it can be found. The multiple photos are great, but it would make it easier if you could number each one. That way, it will be easier for folks to point to specific photos with answers. Welcome. Dave

Colorwise, most the greens and oranges, yellows etc are due to iron salts. Are all those from west Texas as they seem unusual for that area? First pic seems to be carnelian. Rest seem to be jasper or chert except for the fortification agate and the quartz or aragonite pseudomorph agate above it....Mel

The 1st picture is from Mason, TX. The rest are from 3 different spots in Brewster County, TX. The green ones are from about 8 miles south of marathon, tx. The others are from rich beside alpine and about 18 miles south of alpine.
