What kind is #10? That is an amazing pattern on the rock. All of them are amazing. Did you gather the rocks, or are they store bought, or a bit of each?

Great batch, neat snails. Thought i found some turitella a couple weeks ago but it's just some wannabe conglomerate ... someday Is that a teepee canyon in the #4 group, bottom center?

Specifically, #10 is Turitella Agate from the Rock Shed. We have turitella fossils where I live, but the matrix would never survive tumbling. #'s 5, 6, 7, 11 were self collected. Not sure about #8, as it might have come from someone else...though it does have some of the characteristics of others that I picked up. Great batch aDave , is # 11 lavic? MrMike, thank you, and yes it is. I wish the photo was better...I recently bought a new macro lens and am still trying to get used to the camera I recently bought. The lack of depth of field makes the photo look out of focus (except for a pinpoint spot). On this rock, I was happy with some of the veins that ran through it and the fact it didn't undercut. Thanks for asking. Dave

Super job with this batch, Dave. I'm always impressed with rotary batches, because I didn't have it in me to finish one. Bought the Lot O before I ever got to that point. Love the Bots, especially the one that looks like it has gold flecks in it (4:00 in pic 4). Also nice to be able to collect your own material, good job on that Lavic.
It must have been trash pick up day when you took these photos. In the rock near the bottom of pic 7, I see a black haired man in a white tee shirt and dark jump suit standing next to a blue recycling bin. Am I crazy, I never see half the things people see in rocks?

Thanks for all of the nice comments folks. To some specific points. Those turned out great, Dave. I love the bots. Thanks Rob. This was the first time playing with them. I have some more currently running at different stages. Definitely a learning curve as to how far down to take them. Getting quite a production operation going. Sweet tumbles. Thanks James. I've been lucky with producing material at a decent interval. Currently, the way my coarse is running now, I'll probably not have enough to move to the next step right away. We'll see though. Dave you nailed the whole batch but the Turritella is my fav, I love that stuff! I really like it too, Orrum. This last batch didn't seem to undercut and break up as much as the last batch. I'm pretty happy with it. Super job with this batch, Dave. I'm always impressed with rotary batches, because I didn't have it in me to finish one. Bought the Lot O before I ever got to that point. aDaveAre you shooting from tripod or handheld? Tripod solves depth of field issues. Shoot at f22 or smaller and your stones will be in focus throughout. Us the timer to avoid shaking the camera when pressing the shutter.

The second great set in a row Dave. Don't you ever screw it up? Any problems with the turitella pitting or not polishing evenly? How long you run them in Polish? 6 days..

Us the timer to avoid shaking the camera when pressing the shutter. I've been lazy and shooting handheld. I'd love to shoot at a smaller aperture to increase depth of field, but lighting is an issue where I'm shooting from right now. As is turns out, the best spot in my home is underneath a skylight (upstairs). I haven't taken advantage of that yet. Maybe the next go-round. My photos are still a work in progress...if I can get to a spot where the aperture is made much smaller, I'll be set. It'll mean a bit more work (yep, I'm lazy), but I'm going to give the upstairs spot a shot for the next batch. I'm also researching newer digital flashes where I have more options. My current flash will only sync at 1/60, which is pretty lacking for what I want to do. I'll get there one of these days. Dave

That's just funny stuff right there. The "man" that you see is a spot in that rock that probably wasn't sillicated enough and didn't take a polish. If I had noticed that in advance of the photo, I'd have flipped the rock over. I have to agree with you though...it looks like someone standing there. I'm laughing out loud. Dave

Thanks for the compliment Cliff. This group of turitella went much better than the last round, as there was much less undercutting and breaking apart. Polish for this batch was 2 weeks (same on the last one). While I'm happy with these results, I'm wondering what a 3 week polish stage will produce. Hmm...might just let my current batch go for that long. Best regards. Dave

aDaveDon't ever run polish for much longer than a week in vibe. Maybe follow your footsteps on this Dave. Ok 2 weeks on next set and see if mine get shinier. Decent now but not like yours. Good set !!
