Having problems with my Thumlers Model B tumbler. The barrel will not turn. The load is only about 65%, the motor turns fine, there is a new plastic belt on it. It seems the belt is slipping around the pulley on the motor shaft as it turns. Checked the other two shafts they seem to turn easily by hand under no load. my guess is that the motor shaft pulley is worn down/polished just a bit and cannot provide the proper surface tension on the belt. I suppose I could replace it. Anyone else ever had to replace the motor pulley on a Model B?
Thanks

Morning Henry, Never had to replace the pulley on any motor like that. Could the belt be just loose? Can you tighten the belt? Can you use something to take up some belt slack like the handle of a smooth metal butter knife so you can see if tightening it would solve the problem.

There does not seem to be any adjustment for the belt tension, neither on the Motor or on the driven shaft. They are both fixed in position as far as I can tell. It's a plastic tube belt so maybe it "stretches" just enough to affect the tension. Although it's new, maybe a couple of weeks since it was replaced.

Try cleaning the pulley groove with a solvent , maybe acetone .

Wigglinrocks, The Acetone seems to have done the trick, almost 20 minutes and still turning. Thank you
I may need a can of that Belt Grip stuff to have on hand, the grinder slips just a bit on soft rocks and it might be a way to go.
Thanks

Have you tried a different (new) belt? I go through belts like eating popcorn because I run such heavy loads.
May be that the pulley on the motor is slipping. Check (tighten) the hex nut.
Could try wigglin's cleaning the pulley idea, I might also suggest running some sand paper around the groove to roughen it up a bit.

I have had the same problem. It's almost like the bearings are wearing out or something like that. Sometimes my belt runs good overnight be when I look at it in the morning it's slipping.
I've used superglue on the motor pulley with a very fine grit. It eats my belts up in a couple days. I Still think something is moving. Not sure what...yet.
If I find a fix I will let you know. But it's been doing this for a long time.

If belt is slipping, belt grip is a game changer. Lasts a long time too.

Ok, the Acetone helped however after about 40 minutes the Barrel began stopping again. Decided to pull the tumbler off the Floor and onto the workbench for better observation. After a while I noticed that the stoppage seemed to occur at the same spot on the barrel. Inspection of the barrel showed that one of the rims was slightly bent, bulging just a bit outward. The bluge was contacting the stop(guide) on the non-drive shaft and stopping. Decided to see if I could setup tumbler so that the other rim(non-bent) on the barrel would use the other stop on the shaft. Adjusted the shaft stops a bit and elevated one side of the base so that the non-bent rim moved towards the other stop. That seemed to have worked as the barrel has not stopped since.
Now onto my Big Saw Problem!!

Glad you got it running Hank. Will remember your fix in case someone else has the same problem. Good luck on the saw. I have so many projects that even getting a couple done doesn't seem to help. Pretty day in Colorado @hankrocks

On to the next big project. Sister-in-law finally picked up some furniture today that's been in my garage for while. It's been a case of can't do A before B is moved and can't move B until C is moved and so etc, etc. Well the keystone has been removed and the battle of the garage begins. I am going in, no prisoners!!
