Played with my first bezel of this type, and although it has a couple of uneven cuts, it came out pretty good methinks. I cut a strip of 22 gauge Sterling sheet, marked layout lines and cut the notches with a 1/0 blade. I then cut a length of 12 ga square wire and formed around the bezel to give it a more substantial look and heft. I toyed with adding a piece of 16 ga Gold wire around the outside bottom of the square wire for a stepped look, but in the end, I thought it to be a bit of overkill. Photobucket kept kicking me out, so trying to post with Flickr. Hope it works cutbezel1 by Sho Me Silver, on Flickr

Wow, that's really beautiful. Love the notches. Great work! Don't think the few small uneven cuts matter at all. Turquoise to me always seems like a rough stone, not really elegant, so I never thought it needed a "perfect" setting. I do love turquoise. I think it's earthiness works in more settings than most stones. Is it possible to see the underside? Forgot it's name.

That's a really pretty ring and I think it works quite well with the stone.
How did you set the bezel without bending it? I would think that each of the little cuts would be similar to turning the bezel into a series of prongs (for lack of better word..I need more coffee) that would in turn bend very easily.

Look closely and you can see the ends of the cuts rolled over the stone just enough to hold it securely in place. The trick is to get the bezel a very snug fit around the stone as well as have a good angle on the cab for the bezel to roll over just enough to hold. I'll try to get another pic or two today as this one came out too green for some reason when hosted on Flickr.

That turned out beautifully. You did a great job on the bezel and I agree adding to it would have been too much for this piece.

That came out great! I would expect the little sections to splay out when you bent it round. But, it doesn't seem like they did. Beautiful ring for a beautiful stone.

If the Silver had been a thinner gauge, they likely would have splayed a bit. 22 ga is pretty hefty stuff for bezel material and it held up well. I also beveled the inside of the upper part of the bezel so it would fold a bit better. I will do more of this style at some point, but will see how popular this one is and what price it will fetch. Had a lady go GaGa over it today, but she couldn't spare the coin.

Nice work very nice, was the ring shank also hand cut? Like the solid look of it, The shank was fabricated by silver soldering three pieces of square stock together. Fit them as good as possible, mark where the splits end, wire them together, check for gaps and evenness, then with a bench knife spread the outside stock back just a ways so they don't get soldered together.

Arlen, Very nice work! I will try that sometime. I've never made a bezel out of anything thicker than 28 gauge, except for prongs. Lynn
