I'm an amateur jewelry maker with an occasional question about working with semi-precious gemstones, so I hope you all don't mind too much. I had a Skilcraft rock tumbler as a kid and I may eventually get back to starting from scratch, but for now, I have to use up some of my stash of premade stone beads...and I currently have this stone polishing problem: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/79759/rehabbing-grade-premade-stone-beads

Welcome to the forum. As far as your bead problem, some lower cost beads are dipped in lacquer or some other shiny finish. We had pretty good success with poorly polished beads running them through a vibrating tumbler with Diamond Pacific's Vibra Dry 25000 grit. It is reusable and works well on stones and removing tarnish from silver findings.

johnjsgems, I don't think these particular beads are coated. Well, maybe the red jasper are, but not the other three, and I might be better starting from the middle of the process and retumbling the whole strand with them. I have a couple of rotary tumblers of varying quality, and I'm trying to avoid buying a vibrating tumbler. (DH doesn't think I need to add stockpiling unpolished rocks to my bead-buying addiction, but I suspect RTH is full of enablers when it comes to that habit.) accidentalrockhound, more "bead-hoarding gollum" than "bead queen," LOL. So many preciousssss beadssss. Will try to upload a few pics later.
