Taking just a bit of time to vent. Bear with me.
Just went to a funeral today for a classmate/teammate of my son. I coached the boy in baseball when he was growing up, and I worked with his dad. The son was killed in a motorcycle accident last week, and the tragic thing was that dad was riding with him at the time.
If there was any solace, it was all of the boy's friends who walked up to me and said, hello. In one way or another, I either coached or had contact with them due to my son being teammates with them. Some, if not all, were kids that I hadn't seen in years. They're great young men, and if they represent the future of our country, we're in good shape.
It doesn't end here, however. Tomorrow, we're going to a memorial service for one of my son's baseball trainers who worked with my son for 10 years or so. He died in his sleep in his mid 40's.
Kind of a crappy week and am seeing things full circle. I've come to realize that I'm getting older when I'm going to funerals of co-workers and others that are close to us.
Yeah, I know it's life, and it sucks sometimes.

Can't click 'like'.
I think you found a new ground. You (re)learned tomorrow isn't a promise.
You also are looking to a bright future with some fine young men.
Put those two together with all the memories of the dearly departed and now you are cooking with gas.
I know it's painful. Pain is weakness leaving our soul. It only makes you stronger. I know you well enough to know that on the other side you will still be a good man and a good friend. Hang in there buddy. Life is amazing!!

Thanks @shotgunner. I'm not naive enough to know this doesn't happen...just kind of stinks when it hits you in the face.
Best thing I saw with this are the kids who are now fine young men. Gives me hope.

Yeah, I hate it when the full meaning of mortality hits me in the face. Happens regularly lately.
Good to hear a positive report of the former youngins. It's been my experience, too, to be around some of the kids who will hopefully be the ones to take up the reigns. Makes the prospect of leaving a little easier.
