Hi Friends, I was wondering if you could help me with a couple of things. First here is a photo of my first run after 1 week of coarse grit. I laid it out like a chess board so that you can refer to a single rock with a letter/number notation. Can you help me identify them?
I plan on taking a photograph after each week with the same rocks set up the same way and then I can see how a single rock changes from week to week. If I was smart I would have taken a photograph before tumbling, but I'm not smart.
Also I put one of those wire cage necklaces or whatever they are called for scale. You all probably have at least one.
I want to make a "Dalmatian Egg" for my granddaughter but I can't cab it into an egg shape. Would someone like to cab a piece of Dalm. Stone into a small egg shape for me and then mail it to me? It should fit nicely into a cage necklace.
I would be happy to pay you for it. I hope I am not insulting you. Thanks
Grandpa Patrick
I think clicking on the image will make it larger.

I'm still trying to figure out how to add an image. There we go. I expected it to show before hitting post. Is this kind of layout how you normally talk about your tumbles? Attachments:

Thanks for the lead. I thought I would ask here first in case someone wanted to make some money.
What are the stones that I have questions marks for? Are all of the other stones correct? What is that wire necklace called?
Doesn't anyone want to cab me a one inch tall Dalmatian Egg?
Thanks

Hard to see from the small pic, but I think 3E is puddingstone. 3A doesn't feel like a rose quartz to me... has it gone down a lot in size in one week? If so, it's not quartz. I'm thinking calcite or maybe feldspar.

If you click on the small photo you get a large photo! Now what do you think?
That will fill the screen with the image. if you have Photoshop you can copy and paste it into Photoshop and fill the whole screen with just one rock.
It is a little pixelated that way but if you want a larger I can email you larger document.

I guess rock identification is best done when they are all polished. FYI one thing I did was to take mason jars and on the first one label it, "After Course Grit." The second one I labeled, "After Medium Grit." On the third mason jar I labeled it, "After Pre-Polish." and the last jar I labeled it "After Polish." I think this will keep me from pre- polishing a rock when it actually needs to be polished. Also I am finding that the smaller rocks work their way through the system faster than the large rocks. (makes sense.)
I plan on tumbling the course grit until I have a full 1st jar. Then I will go to the medium grit until I have a full second jar and so on. Is that what you guys do? Do you have jars or bins at each level?
Ideally I could have 4 tumblers for each stage, but I don't want to invest that much money. I just want to learn how to do this and write a good instruction sheet for my descendants to use. This will be a part of what I call "The A&A Family Library." This is after my two granddaughters- Aurora and Annabelle.
After I get one jar full of polished rocks I will stop tumbling and I will move on to seashells!
