Hi Folks, Looking down the road I am considering buying a Cabber and a Wet Saw. I don't want to Shoot the Moon But I don't mind Spending Just under $1500.00 for a good Cabber and Around 3 to $500.00 for a saw. Being a Newb I don't mind spending a lil extra vs having to purchase equipment again. with those figures what do you guys reccomend? I can slow any Saw machine down with one of these which are designed for brush type motors up to 20amps Thanks www.harborfreight.com/router-speed-control-43060.html

I've purchased an 18" saw for $200. Craigslist, ebay, backpage and letgo are your friends. Good used equipment in those price ranges found there. Purpose built gear doesn't need a speed controller.

I would buy a Lortone 6 wheel 6" stainless arbor and put a motor and a set of Diamond pacific wheels for a Genie. It would come to about $1400 if you shop.
Decent trim saw under 5 bills, pretty easy. Slab saws for that price, even used, are rare.

If you opportunistically buy used and cheap enough, you can afford to buy again once you know what characteristics are really needed. Almost any slab saw (vice, power or gravity drive, cover, and large size) is better than a small trim saw unless you are space limited or don't want to spend more for a large blade. Almost any cab machine will work if it has decent bearings and wheels. Replacing all of the wheels on an old cab machine is a definite expense, but may be worth it if you buy the frame cheap enough. All of this stuff costs a lot new, but can on occasion be purchased cheaply at estate sales, or from folks that just want it gone. Buy and learn or buy carefully if you are spending big money. Of course part of my commentary is based on the premise that you might be willing to work on or modify something that is not totally perfect when purchased. I'd talk to people in your area and visit their shops, because advice from a distance often needs clarification and a good visualization. Learning the vocabulary and the equipment is half of the startup fun. Good luck. If it sounds like I avoided your question, I did to a certain extent. All of the major companies made good equipment but some is better than others, but deficiencies are worth overlooking if the price is right or until you learn the exact needs that you have.

Thanks guys for the Ideas defiantly a lot to consider. I have a good size room that used to house a different hobby that I am getting out of. when I sell the equipment and things that I have used in that hobby I can easily buy what I need to outfit my new shop. My old hobby my wife really has no interest in. We presently Etch glass so adding stones to etch will fit right in.
