You, and your daughter, sure nailed it on shaping the rocks. Well done.
Some rocks just will not take a shine. No fault of yours.
I would call this a win!
Oddly, my favorites are the pure white stones in the last picture. Try some agates or jasper sometime if you want a batch that shines.

I agree with Bob. Great first batch, and not every rock is going to shine up. If some are shiny, then you probably did everything right. I doubt there is any agate fif your rocks are from Lake Michigan. I do see some granite in there. It’s the speckled rock. There are three granites in picture two. The one with horizontal lines in that picture looks more like gneiss.
