After the first couple of batches in my vibratory tumbler I went to the hardware store and got solid wing nuts so the grit and mud did not accumulate in them. I also grabbed a switch for turning my Rotary on/off as opposed to pulling the plug. Are there other minor changes like that are highly recommended?

Borrowing from another thread and trying to research the forum I have found another modification for the vibe that might be worthy of a good tutorial from someone complete with pictures. At issue is the manufactured vibe action can actually cause bruising of some rocks. There is a "fix" that appears to be adjusting the counterweight. Might not be that simple, as different vibes would need different fixes, and even with the same vibe the manufacturers may have made changes over time. And of course after learning how to adjust the vibe, how would you determine that you have the proper action?

Both UV-10 and UV-18 vibe action sets up a motion that causes both the inner and outer wing-nuts to loosen and work their way up the center screw. A lock washer or star washer is a good addition. The UV-18 now comes with a star washer, but the older UV-10s do not (not sure if the new ones have one added).
The inner and outer washers both have a rubberized side that eventually wears out... rather than ordering a new one, cut some rubber gasket material to replace the worn out rubber.
The center screw post threads can become rusty and wear out over the years of use. I have a can of 3-in-One oil that I use on the shaft each time I change out the load. It also helps to brush the screw threads with a soft bristle tooth brush with water before oiling the threads (let them dry first).

Thank you, this kind of information is probably in the boards somewhere but years of wisdom does a great job of hiding it.
