Was that hard to polish? I had some that I think was the same, but it took a crappy polish. Those look really nice.

Hmmm. I have some too and thought it was too soft to be garnet but then maybe my example has more zoisite and the slab is mixed hardness...Mel

Lol good call, it was and I still couldn't get it to the high shine I was expecting. Rare that I take out the 50000 diamond paste and use it, except this time I had to with this material and still I cant get that pinpoint shine on it, close but not perfect. Thanks!

Stones with interesting patterns like this donât always have to have a mirror polish. Very nice.
Peace, Rich

Have any small cut-offs of that stuff? I have ever a buddy doing it spectroscopy of world minerals.

Have any small cut-offs of that stuff? I have ever a buddy doing it spectroscopy of world minerals. If spiritstone doesn't, I do. In fact I've been meaning to post to this thread because this is a mineral that intrigues me. I'm in the process of cutting a cab somewhat similar to his from material the seller claimed had been ID'd by the GIA as hydrogrossular. I've been holding off because I want to comment how the polishing goes due to the talk upthread about it being difficult to polish. I'm pretty sure it's true hydro but I've run into arrange of other materials also claimed to be hydrogrossular aka "Transvaal Jade" that look very different, including some pink manganese-based specimens. I'll send you a piece of a green/black material sold as hydro with what I think are chromite inclusions for study. It seems to me, based on observations over a long period, that this is stone of many "faces." The discussion probably deserves its own thread so I won't further hijack this one. PM me your snail mail info.

Cut off a gram for me and cab the rest. PM my Addy now
