Aside from the novelty/collect-ability, I'd steer clear from this old plastic junk pile in the making. Any plastic deteriorates over time, and the durability of this unit would be highly suspect. Save your $ and get something that will hold up over time, either a Lortone or Thumler's are the go-to tumblers for this crowd.

I don’t really appreciate that Captbob. That was my first post, but I’ve been a member of this forum for over a year and a lurker for a lot longer than that, the only reason I haven’t posted yet is because I’m just getting the equipment together to actually get some rocks rolling. I don’t think I would ever try and say that something I was secretly selling was too expensive. I know the companies that make good lapidary equipment, I was only suggesting that Sears equipment from that day was built to last, I have a Sears Roebuck jigsaw and corded drill from the late 70s that still work wonderfully. That tumbler is unused, even if the brittle barrels crack into a million pieces and you’d have to throw on some homemade PVC ones it would still be worth a go for about $20. That’s all I was suggesting, and I’m sorry if this reply turned out longer than intended, but after all this time I finally try and contribute an interesting little find I get accused of shilling.

I have poor luck with eBay stuff. The last buy was a Little 3a. After sending money to Rockshed for a new motor, belt, driven pulley, both shafts and all bushings, I have enough into it for a bigger, nicer, brand new machine for my grandkids to use.
... although, that 12 inch saw is only two and a half hours from here...

I have a hand me down S & R tumbler. Both containers are cracked and extremely brittle, albeit the rubber liners are still good. On the flip side to that, the plastic spur gear/fan assembly did turn to dust after first 20 seconds of use after taking it out of storage for a few decades. I put a different motor/drive setup in it, but then metal lids began leaking. Oh well. Served us well for a long time. But that being said, unless you are going for a nostalgic piece of rock tumbling history, then spend your hard earned money elsewhere. My 2¢

My apologies altonstanford if you took my jesting (notice the smiley face) as an accusation. Stranger things have happened here though! I am rather surprised that someone that has been reading here for a lot longer than a year would even consider this third-rate toy a viable option for tumbling rocks. It likely wouldn't even last an entire tumbling run. I seriously doubt that it could turn a homemade PVC barrel once the original plastic barrels crap out. For 90 bucks (with shipping) there are much better choices available. I'd pass on that toy even if it were on a table at my next door neighbor's garage sale for $5 - just sayin' Good luck finding the right machine for your needs and welcome to the forum.

It’s OK, the smiley didn’t show up on my mobile, and I was coming off a terrible Friday at work, that being said I’m still not totally convinced that an unused continuous duty motor, and roller setup wouldn’t be worth a few bucks, but you’re probably right (electrical components still age even when not in use) Of course it’s OK to disagree, no problem with that and we’ll never know because I don’t think anyone here would be willing to shell out the $90 he’s asking for it to settle it. I’m with you that $90 could get a way more dependable setup

Some how missed it, thanks. I am not a fan of the Lortone.
