Hi, Ive collected some stones for my first go at tumbling, I collected them on Solway Firth, Allonby Beach UK. But they are not smooth and have a furry like covering is the only way I can describe them, the black spotted one also has a sparkle ? All other stones I collected are not like this. Is the sparkle sand particles? Im very new so please bear with me if my question is naive. I love the black spotted one so Im hoping it is a stone I can tumble. The second picture is just a variety of what else I collected. Ooops cant seem to attach the files from my phone how do I do this please it says files are too large but its only 1 photo?

Dalmatian stone is a black spotted rhyolite type material out of Mexico. The black does not sparkle which would be more typical of a rock, perhaps a black and white granite, with biotite mica crystals in it....Mel

This is 2 stones both spotty, both furry to touch. The sparkle shows on the black spotty one, is this the black and white granite Mel? and thanks for your reply.

The stones in the picture are either Sandstone or Quartzite. My guess is Sandstone. the brown spots are where pyrite has decomposed to limonite leaving a brown spot. This is similar to speckeled Quartzite. sandstone will not tumble well depending on how it is cemented together.

I was going to say sandstone too. Too grainy for tumbling.

My first (and only) guess was cookies : ) Top chocolate chip. Bottom cinnamon.
