Another nifty device I can’t do w/out-- is the Kindle Reader Read at night without the light on Fabulous ! Decades ago I wanted to invent florescent type that would illuminate the printed words in books for night reading I’m surprised no-one as come up with that, yet But I’d like to get some of the royalties from this idea when they do! Anyway book purist tell me that electronic devices, like the Kindle, is the death of books I understand their hesitation Something about the craft ,history, feel of the book, turning pages, bookmarks ect is nostalgic to them and they don’t want to see that go away. But the Kindle is a really cool device Mohs I cannot stand electronic devices for reading. I've tried it and it is just not them same as holding a book. Spend the day at B&N or one of the other big stores and I don't think they will be the death of books at all.

I saw CJ Box when I was looking for my last book. I got an Ann Rule book instead. I'll check it out next time. I watched a few episodes of Fire Chasers last night. Scary stuff. I did watch a few episodes of American Horror Story a while back, but never went back to it. Make sure the book you get is from the Joe Pickett series. He has some stand-alone books, and they may be good, but I just don't know anything about them. I'll warn you, however, that if you start with one of his most recent books, you'll probably want to start at the very beginning. That's what happened with us. We started with #15 in the series and then went back to #1. All books were available on Amazon still. Also, in addition to Netflix and Amazon, I also find myself on YouTube a fair amount where I've just done searches for documentaries and different subjects. Some are very well done. BTW, if you like the Fire Chasers series, there are some awesome (and sad) films on YouTube where some wildland fires ended up trapping firefighters. Just search for "burnover" and "fire entrapment." I'm not into the death of firefighters, but the films were great training and awareness resources, and it's amazing how conditions can change. Here's one that is pretty amazing. I've embedded the link, as the vid doesn't need to show here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzGTjfTHihU Dave

But the Kindle is a really cool device Mohs mohs , I'm with you all the way on Kindle. It carry mine with me everywhere. It's my answer for the 20-year-old copies of National Geographic in medical waiting rooms and I can read whatever I want wherever I want. And I DO read -- I've had my nose stuck in books since I was just a kid, and that's a long time! As for Kindle being the death of books, I don't think so. I'll often download a Kindle book and after reading it order the paper product to better see the graphs and tables and for quick references via the index. Kindle's a wonderful invention but it has limitations. My tastes run almost exclusively to non-fiction but I read a bit of fiction now and then. As for TV, I'm an addict. Years ago I was paid to watch TV as a daily TV columnist for a newspaper. These days there's a lot of TV I couldn't be paid enough to watch. But there's also plenty of good stuff to keep me occupied when I have time. I've recently binged on The Borgias, Versaille, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire and others. I record Nova, Planet Earth and many other shows including Jeopardy. I'm also a news junkie. And movies -- so few good ones these days but now and then there's a real winner, at least for my tastes. I've recently enjoyed re-runs of "Lonesome Dove" and "Open Range," to name just a couple. I can't stand most Hollywood-ized "science-fiction" having read real nuts-and-bolts SF all my life. Now and then there's a winner, like the screen adaptation of "Flowers for Algernon" and a few (very few) others. I'll soon sign up for streaming and will check out some of the series mentioned upthread.

Planet Earth is my favorite docu-series ever. The photography alone is amazing. Planet Earth 2 isn't to shabby either.

The story of South Canyon in Colorado, I think it was called 'Fire on the Mountain', was excellent. I read one on the Mann Gulch fire also. I'll check out the YouTube offerings. I can't imagine knowing there is nowhere to run, and having to try to take cover under that foil shelter and hope for the best.

Okay so none of you got the right answer. The correct answer is about a million hours of rockhounding vids on YouTube.

Randy, that url above is a two hour documentary that is about the South Canyon fire. One survivor is the lead narrator and other survivors are interviewed. Events as they unfolded are described in their entirety. There is also an old documentary film on Mann Gulch as well on YouTube. I spent hours looking at these and other videos (not in one sitting) and was absolutely spellbound. When you start looking at some of the vids on YouTube, the same subject matter will populate in the side pane. Start choosing from there. BTW, many of the accounts have survivors that ended up deploying their fire shelters. They can work at times.

The Joe Pickett series is outstanding, and actually reminds me of Longmire in a way. I gotta get back into it, but I'm in the last book of the series. May have to start it over as it's been so long since I started. Did you get the new one??? I have to get to the bookstore today......🤗 Didn't see the book at Costco, so I checked online. It appears it is not due to be released until the end of March. Only pre-orders for now.
