Couple of mystery rocks I got at Quartzsite - look familiar to anybody?
Some I took pictures at different times. Including both in case it helps.
1. The seller called this something like "ladder" jasper - referring to the funny lines. Said it was from Utah. zarguy have you ever seen this stuff?
2. Same seller, who lives in Las Cruces . . . he didn't know what this was.
3. This looks like it came from an egg. Several similar slabs.
4. Something from Texas? The black plumes make me think so but ? Not my stencils.
5. Just some oolitic rhyolite, right?
6. Beige orbs in agate (hard to see from the pic but it's definitely agaty or quartzsy).
7. Orbicular rhyolite, or something else? Quite interesting on this one to see the pink staining that came up through the fractures.
8. Green moss agate with ? yellow orbs and filler? Needs serious stabiliizing but I thought it was cool enough to try.
9. This one almost looks like bone but I don't think so - the blobs are round, when you look at the ends, the same pattern is in all directions.
10. Some kind of plume agate - ain't she purty??? This is one of my favorites. Purchased from Kris. I can't remember what he said it was, or else he didn't know.
I'm going to face polish and mount this second one in a frame - it looks like California poppies, which are my favorite flower.
11. Burro creek? Purple cow? Indo? The top bit looks more purple in some light.
12. Cute little light blue porcelain jasper from Kris:
13. Royston, right?
14. Miniature mushrooms (badly in need of stabilization, and probably a lost cause, I know - I gotta start carrying a loupe at shows)
The back of it:
15. This looks a bit like the pictures I've seen of king cobra jasper, but I've never seen it in person. The sprays make me think Texas though. ?
16. What type of chapenite? Very golden. Also from Kris.
17. Peanut obsidian, right? two sellers tried to tell me it was poppy jasper, but I'm not buying that. But I've never been able to get my hands on a slice of peanut obsidian before, so . . .
18. Palm? Just a squiggly rock? When I asked what it was, the dealer said "something some old timer thought looked good so he picked it up and took it home."
19. What kind of agate? And, curse the fracture through that little candle plume at the bottom! Would opticon or hyxtal or soemething hide that? Or should I just cab around it?
Thanks for any help!
