jamesp, so am I to understand that you like the sound of breaking glass? Are you doing this from scraps/slag or are you breaking perfectly good glassware to make these pretties? The bowl isn't my taste, but the little fragments of it are beautiful. It reminds me of surfite. I picked up a couple of chunks of it on eBay (REALLY spendy), and have been playing with it. I'll post some pics soon. Sorry if I've missed a new chapter in your life, I haven't been on these boards for MONTHS for a variety of reasons, and am just scanning through what I've missed. Been looking for you. It's been a while. Don't make yourself so scarce. You figured it out, smash and tumble. Lots of thrift and discount stores here to get glass cheap. Newer generation not to keen on displaying dust collectors. I about have to buy glassware before they haul it to the dump. It is simply not being purchased anymore. Estate sellers can hardly give it away. Let's repurpose !

Let's just call him the proverbial "Bull in a China Shop". Make that a Bull with a hammer!! Debuting today Henry. Going to take a pound of these glass tumbles to an art collective shop in the art district of downtown Atlanta. A Turkish white swirl glass tray to display them in and a $7 digital gram scale(ordered a half dozen scales) next to tray so the tumbles can be weighed and sold by the gram. Business cards also in tray. The shop owner can have the proceeds. It is the 2 dozen jewelers that consign in the shop that I am targeting. Hoping the jewelers will want to make jewelry out of them. Hopefully buy them in bulk to recoup glass expenditures. Got a good gut feeling on this trial run. Wish me well ! Do you like the scheme MsAli ? I will plod around art zones of Atlanta and set these displays up in as many shops that will let me.

Cheaper by the pound. Make sure the shop owner watches the scale if they can change to oz, ct, or dwt. I was buying a cab of Turquoise the other day and the miners wife was managing the booth. I picked out this one cabachon and she put it on the scale and told me it was 3 dollars. I told her it was too cheap and when her husband showed she had the scale on dwt. plus her price per gram was wrong.

Funny, I looked for a grams only scale. China has them. To avoid the units error. I'll have some much higher quality material for you. Money no good.

Your scheme just may work And, I'm thinking You need to get some to the incredible jewelry makers on here ASAP so they can show off just what can be done with these Can you make a big enough chunk for someone to try and make a sphere? Just thinking.....

Just thinking..... Good timing. Going down to the dungeon to build a larger mold for the bricks. Really just wider and longer to use full capacity of kiln. A yet deeper mold should be do able. I see no reason not. Not many molds available for deep pours oddly. Just keep in mind the pile of chunk glass drops in height from say 6 inches to about 2 to 2.5 inches. So to get around the tall stack of chunk glass you could pour several bricks, and then melt them together. Should make a real cool sphere ! You could cast the bottom round but probably not the top to reduce shaping time at the grinder. Oh yes, must get it in the hands of the RTH jewelers. Getting some better glass to send out, got some requests. In a week there will be much fancier glass to distribute, so the delay.

air comes to mind, no pun I have my moments One of my favorite jokes (smart blonde joke): A blonde, a brunette and a redhead apply for a position at a large company. First the brunette goes in. The guy looks over her application and asks her one question: "How many D's are there in 'Bonanza'?" The brunette replies, "None." The guy says, "OK, you may go into the next room for the next stage of the interviewing process." The redhead goes in next. The guy asks her the same question: "How many D's are in 'Bonanza'?" She replies, "None." The guy says, "OK, you may go into the next room." The blonde goes in and he asks the same question: "How many D's are in 'Bonanza'?" After counting on her fingers for a few minutes the blonde replies: "77." The guy, in shock, asks her how she came up with 77. She says: "Dun da da dun dun da dun dun da da" (the Bonanza theme)...

He just disappeared. That man had an eye for Rio's for sure. And could slap a rotary polish on them. Lucky rascal lived just down the road from there.

I would love a few to play with. I would love to send you some samples fernwood. Please PM me your address. I understand why you liked melting glass now. I am melting a chunk daily and can't wait to get up in morning to open kiln. I just found out Hollander has a massive warehouse just up the road from me w/about 3000 different art glass in stock. Looks like trouble.
