Hello all, I'm so happy to have found this great forum. I've been collecting for a few years in the New England area, and recently started cabbing. This site has expanded my knowledge greatly, and opened up interests in metal smith and wire wrapping. Looking forward to participating more.

Hi Tommy,
We spend some time in NH and ME, and those areas have been good to us for rough stones. Beryl, amethyst, tourmaline, and lots of quartz. On a few trips to NY we have been fortunate to find some beautiful Herkimer diamonds. I really love agates, but we are at loss for those out here in the Northeast.
Fantastic, I started on a homemade arbor using expando wheels and belts, but have recently added a flat lap and a Lortone (Kingsley North) 6 wheel machine with Nova wheels. I'm working on making a light box so I can post some pictures.

The Burlington (Vermont) Gem and Mineral Club does some good trips.
If you can join a certain Quebec mineral club not far across the border, they go on trips to Mt. Ste. Hilare, a locality closed to most collectors. Strange and awesome things there, stuff that gets its own case at the Smithsonian.
Yeah, agates are in short supply here for sure.

We belong to the Boston Mineral Club, Maine Mineralogical, and NE Rockhounds, but the only trip in recent years has been to the Argonaut Talc Mine in Ludlow, which I didn't make. It's too bad, of all the NE states, I think is VT is the prettiest of them all, but collecting is limited. MA is only a little bit better.

I'd love to see some tumbled or cabbed talc. That would be a challenge.
