This cab is my latest submission to Rock and Gem magazine for my monthly "Bench Tips" column. It is made from a slab from a Brazilian Agate nodule. I was slabbing the nodule to get some slabs of Milky Chalcedony for my carving projects. Unexpectedly, I came across two slabs that had this dendritic druzy pattern. All the rest slabs were without any pattern. It is 3" tall. In addition to showing the pattern in the cab I wanted to add an accent cab to demonstrate and explain how to recess a small cab into the larger piece. The small cab is chrysocolla. Bob

Beautiful cab Bob! What is the depth of the cab and how much did you recess the chrysocolla piece?

At the point where the cab was recessed the large cab is 5.5mm thick. I recessed the cab about 1.8mm. The small cab is 8.7mm across. Bob

What a beauty! The recessed chryssocolla is such a precisse work and a beautiful accent!
Does the chryssocolla cab go all through the thickness of the main cab?

Adrian, The recessed cab goes only 1.8mm into the larger cab. I used a diamond ball bur to make the hole and an inverted diamond bur to make the seat for the cab. Bob

You make it sound so simple. But, wow, the precision to get everything to line up that well is incredible! Love the look!!!!!

I think that's the one you showed me at Desert Gardens isn't it bobby1? It's even more beautiful in person. Truly a work of art.

That piece just screams 'skill'. Or maybe it's 'talent'. I can't tell, I'm too busy looking to listen. Beautiful!
