Hello all. Im a newbie to lapidary world. Now that Im retired(4 years ago), I have picked up on my silversmithing, due to my carreer I neglected my love for jewelry making for many many years. Now Im back and very eager to learn more on the art of lapidary. Most recent Im undecided if I should invest funds to buy a dop pot or not. I was going back and forth, should I make one or break down and spend 40 bucks on a new one. Which models are the best(ie. warranties, quality, customer support)? Any words of wisdom from you all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help/support.

Welcome!
I don’t use a dop stick usually. Just fingers. When I need a dop, I use Locktite Gel. Much easier than the wax process.

Welcome from Virginia!
I used to use a wooden dop and wax. I use an aluminum dop now and glue. But, I have been very happy with my Inland dop station. I like that the outside ring can be used to heat stones and that it is teflon coated, so a bit of acetone will clean it right up. It's small, too, so it doesn't take up a lot of room. And, importantly, the cord is not too short. Just remember to always turn it off when not in use. Over heating the wax will destroy it.

from Tennessee. To answer your question, I got my Inland wax dop station as a package deal when I bought my second hand Genie. But I too seldom use it any more. Most big cabs I just do my hand and only dop the smaller ones. Then I use superglue on the head of a nail, or an un-sharpened pencil.
