A very long time ago, when I first started cabbing, I bought a small slab of this. It was quite expensive. The seller was calling it Firecracker Obsidian. I made one big pendant, finished the cab in the video and have one small piece left. The corner of my preform got broken laying around all these years, so I had to shape it the way you see it. This obsidian is like a cross between peanut obsidian and fireworks obsidian. It's really gorgeous- at least, I think so. I have never seen it before or after I bought the slab. Have any of you seen it or heard of it before?

That is very cool! The spheres in peanut obsidian are actually crystal structures similar to those in snowflake obsidian but maybe with a different mineral composition. Think maybe the example you have is generically peanut but just a varient with slightly better developed crystals? I've see snowflake obsidian with fancier snowflakes and also poppy jasper types with those more ragged edged poppies rather than smooth orbs too.....Mel

It has a fossil like appearance to it. Stunning.

Some peanut obsidian has a little chatoyancy to it. This is not feldspar or chatoyant. Not saying it can't be some weird hybrid, but in person, it just doesn't look a lot like peanut. I do know one thing- If I ever see anymore, I'm grabbin' it!

Love the stone. I'll have to keep my eye out for some. I've never seen that particular flavor of obsidian.
Love your wrap, too. Are those bicones you incorporated into the bail?

Nope, very small full cut round swarovski. I'm surprised you noticed. They show up nicely in person, but didn't photograph as well.

Hmm...I'm thinking I have something similar in my stash of goodies. I'll check when I get home. Whatever it is, it looks amazing in your wrap.

You just gave me an awesome inspiration for dressing up the bails. Thank you!

I have cabbed several peanut obsidians and I have had a few slabs. This does not look like peanut obsidian. The spheres are not nearly the same color and the red in mine does not look like radiating feldspar. Mine definitely cabbed like obsidian, though. I'm almost sure it isn't peanut obsidian unless it is an extremely rare variety.

Yikes! Still going to keep my eyes out for it. Never know, someone might have a stash of it and not know the going price.
