That rhodonite is really nice. It's another one of those old timey, dime a dozen rocks which are getting harder to get - the better stuff like yours with the nice webbing. I just really hope that I can do it justice that I know you would You'll do fine I have faith in you. Rhodonite cabs real easy, too. Can't tell for sure by the picture, but it could be the harder CA stuff.

What do you plan to start with, if you don't mind my asking? I only regret a couple that I did starting out. I started right in with whatever I was in love with. I think it's real easy to get bored and discouraged if you're not loving what you're cutting. Plus, the more you like it, the better job you'll try to do. eta- I wasn't trying to sound catty, btw. Just in case it came off that way.

Didn't come off catty too me
I have a lot of Jasper that is no harm no foul if I mess up. Like the last one I did. Hard material and it taught me some things, but I already broke the tip when I dropped it. No biggie, I'll just re-do it Need to gain confidence So, the stuff I really love I've set aside

Another picture of this stuff Google goethite and look at the images. Goes hand in hand with the iron range. Do you think this could be pyrophyllite? I've never seen it that dark before. But the ones I've collected are very soft and messy. Almost slippery feeling.

Spoke to the guys daughter tonight and all but coral was found when he worked the mine pits. She said the geode was found there as well and said her dad use to find them all the time. Who knows?? Been on Mindat and confirmed it is possible he got all of this from there.

Well i was looking at a rocks and minerals book and came across Pyrolusite Thoughts?? I've seen material much like that at the San Bernardino County Museum.......Pyrolusite, mined in Riverside County and Santa Clara County......certainly looks like a tetran manganese oxide.....if it is messy, you probably hit the nail on the head.

I see Pyrolusite is found in our iron mines and found articles of it being on the Cayuna Range which makes sense. The goethite is less messy from what I see. I have never seen it around here . Will talk about it with a geologist friend when I see him.

Excited to hear what your friend thinks.
