I've had this idea kind of kicking around in my head for a while now, had most of the parts laying around. Wanted to build something actually nice, but a couple of days ago I just started throwing parts together. Still mock-up stage really but I was running it this afternoon and think it may work. Heck, it made noise, sanded the rock, threw water all over, guess it's okay. I know I'll be modifying it, but use it the way it is for a while before I tear it all apart and start over.

Ugly thing, ain't it? 8 x 3 expando on the right, 6 inch polishing head on the left. I'll use SiC discs on it for backs of cabs and whatnot. Not pictured is the water feed-2 gallon garden sprayer that has never had anything but water in it. Used it this afternoon, seemed to work fine.

Stole this idea from bobby1 . Domed polishing disc just over 10 inches diameter. Have a chunk of carpet remnant to put on it but that won't be for a couple of days yet. Remove the expando and it's guard, install the disc with it's guard. Only takes a couple of minutes.

Top view just because I took the picture so I may as well post it.
The motor is an old GE from a washing machine. Has two pulleys of different sizes. You'll notice that the driven shaft also has two pulleys of different sizes. But wait! There's more!
It is a two speed motor.

On/off on the right, on the left is a 3-way switch. Hot to common, legs to poles on motor. By varying motor speed and which pulleys I have the belt on provides an rpm range from 500 to 1725, depending on what I'm doing at the time.
Already have some changes in mind but want to play with it a while.
Just trying to get as many processes as possible in as little space as I can.
Feel free to comment when you finish laughing.
