I picked this up on etsy- not cheap, but worth every penny. Have you ever seen a cab of Damascus steel? I haven't. It's a beauty. This guy, Zander, makes them for his shop- ColoradoGemworks

Wow, now there's great idea for a manly bola tie stone for an avid blade collector. Would match yore knife blade. Damascus billets are not all that expensive to buy but I don't know how easy they would be to grind on a cab machine. Hardness of mohs 5-6 or so, I'd think, so pretty doable. Think you'd have to do something about rust though as damascus rusts easily. Cool concept though!....Mel

I was thinking bolo tie, too, or a man's pendant. Knowing me it will be a pendant. A lot of men buy from me. Wish I could get DH to wear a pendant.

Never saw one of those before. Beautiful cab. How heavy is it? I took at a look at his store. Nice pieces and yeah, those cabs are pricey!

It's 3 mm thick and has a buff top- so not too thick. He said this was his favorite so far. I think he's on to something- these are bad to the bone.

Actually can shape, grind and polish very easily with SIC there are actually several different Damascus patterns that can be made like raindrop and ladder.Google Damascus steel patterns. I really like that idea never thought about it.Ditto on the AO also.

My first thought when I saw it was that's the wildest psilomelane cab I've ever seen. What are your general plans for it - other than waxing it?

I found this and his shop searching for psilomelane- in fact, we discussed my getting a cab of it from him to match. But, I have some that will work if I choose to use it. I was thinking of putting this in my collection, but I don't think it would survive long there. I even went and got a stainless chain for it already! LOL! So, I think it is destined to be a manly necklace.

from about 2005 to about 2010 I went Damascus crazy. I remember my first time I made Damascus I went to a meeting 2.5 hours from home in bad weather to a guy named john fee's shop (hes now on the board of abana artist blacksmiths of north america) only 3 of us there. we ditched the demo that was planned as it was pretty easy to include all skill levels. and proceeded to do our first damascus billets. after that I was hooked experimented and played with all types of pattern from simple ladder raindrop sawtooth patterns to multitwist bars and acordians. I was blacksmithing back before it was cool. nowdays with shows like forged in fire utube videos ect our group has expanded exponentially. since everyone these days can make up fake bios ect heres a link to a meeting announcement from me teaching damascus at a meeting. toward the end of my damascus craze. www.nysdb.org/2010/adirondack-march2010/

I have a bunch of scrap damascus somewhere from a knife maker. He gave me that, Ivory, and giraffe bone (He said giraffe leg bones are the most dense bone you can get due to the height and length of the animal, looks very cool too). He said if I heated the damascus up I would have to re etch it to get the patern back. Thats all I know.

I doubt it unfortunately with the digital age I find pictures I didn't print out end up going by the wayside as every time I get a new computer . since its a hobby I didn't see the need to build a portfolio lol.
