One of my favorite forum members like to talk about Ocotillo Wells. I have to assume that it is a pretty cool place. What is there? And someone convince me as to why I should take a look (maybe) if I go to CA this May.

Ocotillo Wells.....between El Centro & Salton Sea, not that far from the Mexican border...has gas domes, quartz, agates/jasper even fossil shells.....Wiley Wells has Geo's, Shell Canyon has fossils and quartz, Anza Borrego has agates/jasper but you can't legally collect within the SVRA park.......Many, many years ago I was part of a land surveying team working out of Salton Sea. At the time, I was not a collector, but a couple of guys on our team were.....by the time our assignment was over, those guys must have brought back with them at least 100lbs of rocks.

There is a kyanite mine, a dumortierite field, a played out malachite mine with amazing patterns and covellite inclusions, tons of eggs and geodes to the north, pastellite hill on the way in, agates afield in the chuckwalla mountains and beyond.
I have notes to "heliotrope" in a wilderness not far from wileys well.
Plus all the stuff Jean has shared and Adam too.....
