I'm Linda, from Houghs Neck, Quincy, MA... I recently revived an old LORTONE 3A tumbler that I rescued from my uncle's flooded basement. I successfully rough tumbled some gorgeous obsidian for about a week, then the old belt snapped. I replaced the belt and the bearings, but can't get the driver shaft bearing near the motor off to replace it. I'm having trouble getting the barrel to roll at all. Reading this site's comments is really helpful. Others have had similar issues and their solutions are great for me to try! Excited to tumble and polish all my beautiful beach finds: Rhodonite, Chrysocolla, Pink Moonstone, etc. all local on the beach!

Hi Linda! Welcome to the forum from Northern California.
Sorry... I can't help much with the 3A other than to replace the drive belt. I am sure there are other Members who are more mechanically inclined that can help you.
The 3A is a real good tumbler... a real work horse for those smaller loads. I am sure that when you do get the shaft replaced and the puppy buttoned-up you will realize many good tumbles.

I found a nice YouTube video on 3A Maintenance:
Even though the 3A is new, the presenter touches on all the disassembly. The last 1/3 of the video gets into the shafts/bearings and what to do to replace them. It seems like if you have a bearing assembly stuck to the shaft, You can use some penetrating oil to loosen the old muk and lightly tap around until it comes off. (align a small piece of wood parallel with the shaft and butt the wood up against the bearing. Tap the wood lightly... not the bearing directly)
Interesting video...

Welcome Linda, from Rehoboth MA. It sounds like the beach has been a great source of rough stones.

Welcome from Virginia. My 3a gave me trouble once. I rubbed the barrel down with acetone and cleaned the rods that hold it and it was good to go.
