Snow finally melted off, mud pretty much dried up so we got out a little yesterday. Still exploring and getting the lay of the land around here. Last year we weren't able to get out much so we're going to try and make up for it. We went in a general area where we hadn't spent much time. First stop was a roadcut through Cambrian shale/limestone. Found a few bugs.

Over shot one spot I was looking for, crossed the fault and wound up driving through Oligocene-Miocene tuff. One roadcut caught my eye so we pulled over to take a look. The roadcut itself wasn't all that much but climbing the hill we found some of this.

Seems to be hard enough to work with, we'll know for sure this week. If not it will look interesting in the landscaping. Only brought home a little to play with, I know where to get more if I want it. Haw Haw.
This guy was hanging out wanting to be an internet celebrity.

This guy seems happy for the sunshine-ready for spring.

Traffic was horrendous.

Later on at another stop we found this.

Unuseable for anything, way porous and soft. Need some yard rocks, though.
About it for that. A couple of weeks ago I walked up the wash across the road from the house.

Nothing real special, just a yard rock.

Mississippian colonial rugose coral, some crinoid stems and maybe an echinoderm?
Anyway, it was great getting out a little. Thanks for looking and have a great day.
Russ
P.S. I'm sure everyone is aware but just a reminder-it's springtime and when I got back from across the road I had a tick crawling up my leg. Check for them little critters
