Hello, New member here. I have been following this forum for more than a month already as guest. I'm excited to finally join. I also joined another forum recently.
I love finding rocks and collecting them, even though mamy times I have no idea what they are. I finally got a flat lap that I can't wait to start using but I'm still researching on a good, very simple set-up. I also have a dremel that I could use. I've never created anything, but making free-forms, spheres, and knapping looks fun.
Can anybody provide a link to an appropriate mask to use during grinding/polishing? I used a N95 small white mask but I feel I should be using better quality protection.
Looking forward to meet and learn from you!

Howdy from Virgina! I use a good dust mask for general use and I have a respirator type for rocks that are known to be harmful- like malachite and other copper bearing stones. You can search here to find more threads abt it and have a look a this recent one. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/83433/toxic-rocks

joselito I have been cutting since 1966 and have never used an air filter. Cabbing, flat lapping are done in water and sawing is done in oil. Tumbling in a barrel. When I crush rocks I wear a dust mask. I have cut malachite, azurite, abalone/MOP, bone and antler and again this is all done under/with water so no dust. Polishing is wet on leather or muslin (or diamond). I am very careful around linde A and fine SiC and polishes that are dry not to make dust or I use a mask there but that is occasional. Maybe I am not careful enough but I have never had any issues.
