Hi, my name is Seveth, I make jewelry and decided to take it to another level by making my own focal beads. My husband bought me a beginner rock tumbler that I have no clue on how to use. It's a Nat. Geo. one. I hope it works for what I want it to do! Thank you for letting me join the forum. I hope I'm not a pest with all the questions I have!

Welcome, Seveth, from Northern Arizona!
I don't tumble, but there are lots of folks here who do who are happy to help. You can do a search for specific questions, too.

Welcome from California. Where are you?
I don’t know anything about tumbling rocks, but there are EXPERTS here. Good luck!

Welcome to the Forum seveth7 from Northern California! Are you planning to hand grind and drill the rough shape of the beads and using the tumbler to put a shine on them? or... Are you planning the cut out slab squares (or other shapes) and using the tumbler to knock off sharp edges... rounding the stones? or... Are you planning to use rocks you find... rounding out the rough edges? Right out the starting gate... You will notice that the Nat Geo tumbler kit contains packets of abrasive powder called grit to use in the tumbling stages. The first packet is the coarse grit (typically around 80 grit). It is through the coarse grind that the rough beads will get most of their shape. If you want to just knock off the sharp corners but retain the natural shape, the single pack might be enough. If you want more rounding to the shape, you will need to repeat the first step a few more times (doing a clean-out and refreshing the grit between each run). The rest of the steps (stages) will probably not change the shape much... They are meant to progress your tumble to a nice shine. With that in mind... You will probably need more coarse grit than they give you in the Nat Geo kit to get the shape(s) you want. You can buy more through Amazon or through a lapidary vendor (I buy most of my own supplies from The Rock Shed in South Dakota - TheRockShed.com). 'Hope this helps. Glenn

Welcome to the forum from Southern CA.
I mean this with no disrespect at all, but please use the default white font when you post. I'm using a forum theme that makes your pink/purple font difficult to read. What you say has value. I'd hate to not read it because I can't. Thanks and regards.
