Maybe this is a better way to access the photo. Bob

Dendritic opal with psilomelane forming the dendrites. Do you know where it's from?

There is also a limestone material from Germany that is more for specimens (softer stuff that doesn't take much of a polish, and the dendrites don't always go down very far). I have seen it set, just cut to an outline shape but no sanding, doming or polishing on the face. That just comes to mind because I don't see any indication of conchoidal fractures around the edges. If it is limestone, you might not want to put it to the grinder or polish, as those pieces can sell for more as specimens in rock shops and shows.

Sagebrush Jasper from Wyoming if it's hard. Also called South Pass Dendritic Jasper. Wyoming also has a dendritic opal and as mentioned above, similar dendritic limestone comes from Texas and Lake Valley,NM and probably lots of other locations too....Mel

I think Mel is right. There are some dendritic dolomites that look like this, but the more matt surface looks like the jasper

The material is quite soft, definitely not opal like nor jasper like in hardness. The dendritic patterns are three dimensional not like a manganese surface layer. I'm going to laminate a lab grown quartz crystal cap on it so it will be more stable for making a cab. Maybe a dentritic limestone? Bob

I was thinking sagebrush too. Makes super cabs.
