I love my lotos, but plastic fan supporting the offset weight seems to often lead towards replacement. Really just seems like a not so great way to provide an offset weight.
I have an very old version with metal fans that's holding up very well. And the other day I saw an image of one of the original loto with counter weights without any fans at all.
The way the current fans are set up is that a metal plate that supports the weight is pop riveted to the plastic. Most of the units I've seen the plastic fans slowly deform. I currently have one with the fan wobbling enough that it shifts the shaft horizontally every so often - ie needs replacing.
So Ive been thinking of just letting the plastic fan blade do its own job (cool) and mount a different counter weight outside the fan so it's independent and I don't have to buy replacement fans every so often.
Has anyone tinkered with the weights/fans on their loto?

Mine has been fine for about five years. I don’t run my continuously, so that’s not a full five years, but no problems so far.

Bummer on the weld breaking. I've picked up a couple used versions, the fans are always in various states of wobblieness... seems like it shouldn't be a hard physics problem to solve, hmmm. You sure went all out, I don't like dealing with concrete or blocks, so I usually chop some 2x6 make a box and put a 50lb bag of sand in that and screw the tumbler to to top. Lazy, just use what I have at hand.

Thanks oregon I followed their install and when I sent the owner of LOT O, TOM STOCKWELL Pictures he gave me Kudo's on the Concrete Block Handles and he could tell by pictures of my Shop that my stuff is standing tall and he didn't hassle me one bit. I guess if anything that paid off. Hey Question what is that green cap on your LOT 0? How does that work? Thanks ~Duke

Question what is that green cap on your LOT 0? How does that work? Thanks ~Duke First one I bough came with a Tuna can for a lid - 3D printed that green one, rubber band loops to keep it on, but never use them any more, it's pretty snug and I haven't had a lid come off yet.

Pretty neat! My Lid was coming off quite often until I poked a pin hole in the top of the lid. If I wipe the neck of tumbler container and lid dy and put on then I am pretty much good to go. I have a PAN TILT ZOOM Camera in my Lapidary Shop So I can Zoom in and look at things that need looking at. I need to get a 3D Printer many things I have wanted to make. ~Duke
