Not sure if this is the right place But lately I've been looking for vintage beads Found this earring in a jar at a antique shop I'm thinking opalite and alexandrite? The stone changes from a pink to a pale purple Going to remake it into something and want to label it correctly

I don't think chrysoberyl/alexandrite. Is the color change dependent on light temperature (cool fluorescent vs. warm incandescent), or does it change due to other factors (orientation angle/pleochroism, tenebrescence, etc.)? Does it fluoresce under UV?

Color changes with the light and angle Haven't checked to see if it is florescent yet, but that is a good idea I'll take it to the gallery tomorrow and see if he will test it for me

Definitely looks worth repurposing.

Vermeil? Alexandrite is so rare and expensive, I can't see that being it, but there are lots of synthetics and lab ones. Some of the best opalite I've seen is glass. It's really pretty, though. But, I doubt it was expensive. The stone, without color change properties, looks like kunzite.

Nice find. Agree with Opalite or synthetic Moonstone for the large one.

If it is indeed vintage the bead won't be sea opal glass, it's a relatively recent thing. Also doubting the faceted stone is glass, try tube setting glass. Wouldn't be irradiated fluorite for the same reason. The pink/purple is common to sapphire, and has been grown in labs for a long time.

Found these listings. The guy at the gallery yesterday was kind of a donkey and not much help. Think I'll take it to a jeweler, but it looks like it is opalite. I'm not convinced the small stone is amethyst however.

I really wish I had the other one. I really like it and would keep them as earrings.

I have a similar pair of earrings. I wish I could provide a picture, but the earrings are in Arizona and I am in Wyoming. The silver work is nearly identical, although mine have a silver decoration instead of the faceted stone. Mine were purchased in Matamoros, Mexico in 1997 by my boyfriend. He didn't say what the stones were supposed to be. Sorry I am not of more assistance, but perhaps location and time frame will be helpful. Good luck!

That is cool, thank you The location will help I'm finding whoever made these did so with different stones and some dont have a stone at all
