Joined a while back and have been reading a lot of the posts and trying to get a grasp tumbling. Just received my new 45c from the rock shed and started my first load. Decided to try some desert jasper that had been suggested in one of the posts as a good starting material. I live about 20 miles south of Tucson and have not been able to find a lot of suitable material for tumbling yet. There is a lot of interesting softer rocks close around because of the nearby copper mines. Some very nice looking chrysocolla, but probably around 3 or 4 on the mohs scale for the hardest I've found. Also found tenorite/malachite that is very interesting, but also too soft to tumble. Did find a bit of quartz crystal with some a bit of amethyst inclusion in the wash across the street from my house. Also a lot of quartzite around, but lots of cracks and not very interesting. The most interesting rocks I've run across so far are in landscaping gravel. Hope to be able to get out a little further from home once the weather cools some. Thank to everyone for the weLTH OF INFO ON THE FORUM.
