I was hoping to upload a picture of a rock I can't ID that I found along the Yellowstone River, but can't figure out how to do it. Most forums I can cut & paste or upload a file. Oh, well. Anyway greets to all! OK, uploaded file from cloudinary, seemed to work. Picture looks great, hope someone can ID it now lol.

Welcome from Oregon, an old Montana dog here too... Hounded the Yellowstone many times! Looks like a Jasper....If in the Billings area, take it into the Rock Shop there and have Bob ID it for you.. Its on Old Hardin Road..

I find that stuff all of the time on the Yellowstone. Sometimes it is mudstone, occasionally it is jasper. If it is jasper, it polished real nice. If it is mudstone, it will be useless and should go over the shoulder. There is a metric ass load of mudstone which is gray and red streaked. It is useless. Looks nice for a bit, but once you look closer, it is trash.
