I could frankly fill up the "ID" page out here with things I find on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands. This one stuck out like a sore thumb when I saw it lying there this weekend. Any idea what you'd call it? Certainly not the typical prairie/bubblegum/other agate I typically find there.

Its had a rough life and shows it on the surface. It sure appears that the grey-white is not the typical rind of an agate oxidation, but rather a distinct rock that enclosed or bordered the reddish jasper. It begs to be slabbed or windowed to see what kind of pattern might be hiding within that would justify a fancy agate name. Cutting off a small slice from one end would make it stand better even if you decided not to slab the entire specimen.

Could it be a mix of Granite or Quartz and Jasper? I have found some of those where I live. Mine are no where near as colorful.

I don't know but if the colors go through that would make some awesome cabs.

That's pretty cool! I've never hunted the Buffalo Gap grasslands but I'm not far off in the Oglala grasslands and I think we probably find similar things. If you're ever in this area shoot me a message or just look for a bright yellow SUV crawling around the prairie!

Nice. Looks like it should have some crime scene tape surrounding it.

That needs to be cut to see what is hiding inside
