This post is to answer a question Jugglerguy had asked in another of my threads. This is one of my better examples of a crystal pocket after tumbling. These Brazilian agates spent months in stage one and then went through my normal lot-o routine. I never filled the crystal pockets. When they were done the inner crystals still had there sharp shapes. The insides were not rounded off or effected by the tumbling process. Chuck

Thanks for the pictures, Chuck. I don't remember seeing those before. I would have thought that you would have to fill the holes with wax or something to keep the crystals from being damaged. The contrast is great between the crystals and the smooth exterior.

Thanks for the pictures, Chuck. I don't remember seeing those before. I would have thought that you would have to fill the holes with wax or something to keep the crystals from being damaged. The contrast is great between the crystals and the smooth exterior. In stage one I would not have any rocks small enough to enter the pockets so no damage should be done there. In the rest of the stages I think small ceramics get stuck in the pockets early in each run so maybe that would limit contact. Just guessing of course but at every clean out I always have to work hard to get ceramics out of all the pockets. Even more fun now that 2mm round ceramic beads have some how found there way into my small/large cylinders bin. Trying to get those round beads out of nooks and crannies is a real pain. Chuck

There was a point in time when I'd try to tumble or break out crystal vugs. No longer, as I see them as an interesting part of the rock. They are not too hard to clean and cause no harm down the line. I like the way they look, your examples are very nice.
