No one won the jackpot! I'm amazed. Now it is projected to be 1.6 billion or a 904 million cash pay out. www.megamillions.com/So, what would YOU do if you won? I would set up trusts for my grandkids, give my kids a healthy amount. Get a house with a ginormous garage for our hobbies and give the Salvation Army a ton. That's just off the top of my head. Lots of great rocks are in there somewhere.

Have needed repairs to my house, barn and bird coops. Expand kitchen and have master bath built. Air conditioning added. Attached, heated garage with workshop space. Everything lapidary equipment I need. New AWD/4WD vehicle. New ATV. More horses, lol. Fence repairs.
Trust for my daughter and her future unborn children. Donations to about 4 non profits I am either active with or used to work for.
Rest would provide me for needed income for about 35 years. Doubt I will live beyond that.

That huge of an amount would go straight into a foundation/trust of some sort that could generate sufficient income to allow me to live far more than comfortably and still do fun charitable stuff in a pretty big way. Unfortunately it's far more likely to ruin someones life, big lottery winners seldom buy anything even remotely resembling happiness with their winnings.

The smart ones wait and gather their lawyers and financial managers before they come forward to collect.

Yes, have heard many stories about long lost relatives coming forward claiming some of the winnings. Fortunately, I only have one living relative, my daughter. No chance of any others, as I am a genealogy expert. All of the non profits I would choose would be grateful for $100.00, let alone the million I would give them. What it could do for them, would be amazing. Some work with Veterans, some with those who have challenges. Some promote the arts. Some are restoring historical buildings. Some promote environmental causes.
Have the financial manager and lawyer. Hoping I would have the smarts to manage even 1 million dollars. I would still work after winning.
But, I have not bought a lottery ticket in about 10 years, lol. That was after a win of $2000.00 where I selected my own numbers. Have not pushed my luck since then, other than scratch off tickets. Considering purchasing some quick picks and some self chosen numbers on way to work Monday. After all, one cannot win if they do not purchase the tickets.

The smart ones wait and gather their lawyers and financial managers before they come forward to collect. Form a corporation in your home state. Give that Corp the ticket. Form a second Corp in Vermont. Have that corporation own the first. Then pay the local attorney to tender the ticket on the corporation behalf. The local Corp ownership is public record. The Vermont Corp is not. Let them use that ownership for publicity.

You can also run that ticket through our office in Nairobi. Our fees are very reasonable.

I have a hard time even comprehending that amount of money. I doubt I could spend it all even if I tried really hard.
There are a lot of things I would do with money. Number one would be to set up my immediate family and very close friends to be more than comfortable. I would definitely build a house to accommodate Vince and my hobbies and have a big, chef's kitchen.
A high-clearance truck and ATV's would be on the list for rock hounding. Besides that, I would buy some land and build a nice big meeting and event center for our rock club so they wouldn't have to worry about meeting space or renting show space ever again. The charities I am fond of would receive great big donations.
Personally, I don't need a whole lot of fancy, schmantsy stuff. I think it would be wonderful to do whatever I wanted to whenever I wanted to do it and not have to worry about paying the bills.

Had to laugh. Stopped for gas on my way home from work. The station had run out of lottery machine paper. They had called a few others (part of the same chain) in the area and they too were either out or almost out.

One of the first things on my list would be a large building to house the local rock club and ALL the equipment needed for the different aspects of the hobby. I feel there is way too much knowledge being lost when old farts like myself check out of this world. We need to get the youngsters interested and off the streets and having a place to go a few nights a week and the equipment available to learn on might just instill a sense of self worth and accomplishment there. Might have to hire a few old farts to give classes several nights a week on different aspects of the hobby, give their wives a break and keep the old geezers out of the beer joints ? Second on the list would be an extended vacation on St Martin Island with my metal Detector. The beach at the end of the Airport runway ( HAS ) to be a real Gold mine , Next on the upper part of the list would be a trust that would match the yearly earnings of the younger members of the family , this would allow them to work a job ( THEY ) enjoyed rather than one they needed just to exist.
The very first thing on my list would be a lock box in the local bank to keep the winning ticket in until I had time to get the best legal advice that much money could buy !

We have done a big buy here at the hospital lab I work for. If we won as a group, I would be the one still working because I care about our patients. But hopefully I could get everyone replaced, trained and then find someone to do my job, then Travel, Travel, Travel, Travel!

Honestly, I don't really need much material-wise in my life. But here's what I would do. First, pay off all of my bills. Second, make sure my Dad, kids and grandson were taken care of. Third, hire a financial manager and invest/save enough to live off of the interest.
Then I would buy some property with a ranch, a nice new rock crawler and an atv.
Finally, I would set up the biggest, baddest lapidary/rock shop in the state, hire someone who knows way more than I do to run it and make it a place where kids could come and learn about it all.
What can I say, I'm hooked on this hobby.

My immediate family would be set up with conditions. (My daughter for example would have to continue her Masters) My daughter, parents, 3 brothers all would get homes & a vehicle plus a lump sum that once it is gone they cannot get anymore. I would buy the 100 acres in Minnesota, outside of the Pillsbury State Forest, I have had my eye on for awhile and would have a rehabilitation center for horses. Focusing on the slaughter house rescues. All of my domestic farm animals would be from the The livestock conservancy list. I would also buy some additional property in Mn to prevent commercial development Of course I would get a truck. (The Ford F150 Raptor or limited edition-have not decided which yet) & a pretty new 16ft Lund. With this much money I could afford a vacation home. hhmmmmm Maldives? Figi? New Caledonia? Turks and Caicos? Will need to visit them all to decide & of course an extensive trip across the US to rock-hound. Also I want to travel to Aus, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, Wales I would also make a donation to the ALS/MD clinics that we run here.

I have had a solid plan for quite some time. Whenever I buy a ticket, I day dream.
First, pay off the house and live easy.
Second, buy a lot in wilderness set off from the big city. It encompasses three counties and is surrounded by state park. Family has had it for sale for a decade. No takers.
Third, have an architect design dream house and build it.
Fourth, buy a house for kidlet. She has started her career now and a home would add stability.
Fifth, buy lots of gold kilograms. Then gift those to folks whose mortgage needs paying off.
And while I am doing all that, find and buy medium size shopping centers. In different towns. Wherever I like to visit. They provide steady passive income and make visits to those towns a tax deduction. And add diversity in the event of local economic changes.
Live and play off the passive income, continuing the work of making the winnings do the heavy lifting.
