Never really learned the correct way to cab. Spent the last week working with a club member who took the time to teach me how it is done. Can't thank them enough for the help, hands on is the way I like to learn. Friday, I had to do 5 without help. Still haven't quite acquired the abilities to do "Great" cabs yet, I am a work in progress at all times....

I think they look pretty good. I don’t cab, but would potentially like to learn.

It sure does....Grinding with no plan-just making shapes was not working for me. Amazing what can happen when one uses the methods that the top cabbers actually use. Where the stone is on the wheel, correct dopping, how to shape pre-forms, building leather laps........Can't say it enough....join the local club and use the knowledge that is available from long time members. Next month, facet lessons as he sold me his Graves.....lol.

Very nice! Sometimes we can all use a brush up on our techniques and local lapidary clubs is a great place to get just that.

Nice Job. Bottom right looks like Montana. If you can finish a Montana agate with no scratches then your spending enough time at each wheel. I still have the first cabs that me and my son made years ago in our club cabbing class.

It's always fun to see newbie cabs. Looks like you're off to a good start.

I still have the first cabs that me and my son made years ago in our club cabbing class. Chuck Rock folk must all think alike, 2 of them were Montana's and he told me that very same thing. Upper right is also a Montana (almost Iris). They were "test" stones to see if I was getting everything worked correctly. The free form Montana, a test of working without a dop. Learned a great deal here from reading posts and seeing everyone's work. Making a comparison to my work before the lessons.........I took the lessons. Thank you all.

Practice makes perfect, and it looks like you're well on your way now. Pick people's brains at your club. You'll find they all have their own techniques for doing things. Try them and see if they work for you. If so, great! If not, try someone else's method. There is not a "correct" way to do anything when it comes to cabbing. If it works, it's golden!
Thanks for sharing your experience!

I’m with the bird on this one. Many ways to skin a cat. End result is what matters. It also helps if you have fun!
