Decided to cab some of this layered jasp-agate material from the Dead Camel Mountains. Interestingly people I have shown the Dead Camel cabs to have liked the jasp-agate more than the jasper.

I don't know if I prefer one over the other. The jasper and jasp-agate both have their charms. Brecciated and landscape jasper are two of my favorite victims.

Those are pretty gorgeous. You dig that yourself? It looks a little different (better!) than the material that "that one guy" and "that other guy" are selling.

I was in Reno for three weeks helping my dad and our club was making a trip to Northern Nevada. So I drove down from Reno since it is only 60 miles and jointed them at the Dead Camel Mountains.
This is a slab of the material:
The largest piece of this layered material is the one next to the wheel well on the right.

I have a guy who will trade me spheres for material to make a second sphere so I am going to send him a piece of this at some point to make a couple spheres. I really like the colors and patterns as well.

I like that jasp agate. Nice patterns. Is this what they were calling baskinite?

Wow that's a big rock! I really like the agate intrusions. Yes, it was fun carrying that thing back to the truck. Luckily I was only parked about 40 yards away so I did not have to carry it far.

I like that jasp agate. Nice patterns. Is this what they were calling baskinite? I have no idea. I saw that name listed before with the various names of the Dead Camel Mountain material but never looked it up. Would be nice to put an actual name to the material.

It does kind of look like baskinite. Although the colors in yours are nicer.

The baskinite I've seen at shows around here is mostly brown. It does have some white stringers and some other colors mixed in, but the overall color reads "brown" to me. Sounds like probably the same stuff, from a different part of the deposit. Things ya learn! Thanks for sharing them.

That made some nice cabs! Looks like you got enough material for about a thousand cabs.

Should be going back up that way in a few weeks so hoping to find some more now that I have a better idea of what I am looking for.
